Unbeaten run continues as York steal away point: AFC Telford 0 York City 0

BLUE Square Bet Premier promotion hopefuls York City were lucky to leave lowly AFC Telford United with a point.

Goalkeeper Michael Ingham made two good second-half saves to keep his side in the game after team-mate David McGurk had also headed a Daniel Preston effort off the line.

The draw still meant York moved up to third and are unbeaten in 12 league games, but they lost ground on leaders Wrexham, who beat Southport.

A poor first half saw both sides struggle to create genuine goal-scoring opportunities.

For the Minstermen, Ashley Chambers had a 12-yard shot deflected wide while Scott Kerr also missed the target.

At the other end, Telford’s best chance fell to substitute Nathan Rooney on the stroke of half-time but he missed the target with his head after being left unmarked following Ashley Cain’s right-wing cross.

The home side stepped up a gear in the second half with McGurk clearing Preston’s volley off the line in the 50th minute.

Ingham was also required to make smart stops from Phil Trainer and Cain as the Bucks continued to dominate.

Preston, meanwhile, missed the last chance to secure a deserved victory for Andy Sinton’s men when he headed over from Sean Newton’s cross on 87 minutes.

York substitute Jamie Reed then blazed over on the turn at the other end, but the Minstermen will have been relieved to have left Shropshire with a point.

AFC Telford: Young, Salmon, Whitehead, Preston, Valentine, Cain, Smith, Trainer, Newton, Jones (Rooney, 42), Brown. Unused substitutes: Adams, Evans, King, Farrell.
