Walker points way for blundering York: York City 2 Darlington 2

A super 79th minute 20-yard cross-shot by Jason Walker rescued a point for York City after two defensive blunders had put Darlington in the driving seat.

Walker, watched by Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager Chris Evans, hammered his shot into Sam Russell’s top left-hand corner to score his seventh goal of the season.

York, who fielded the side which won at Wrexham on Saturday had the tonic of a goal in 65 seconds. Ashley Chambers and Walker combined to set up Jamie Reed, who scored from 15 yards.

York hammered away but a defensive blunder saw Darlington equalise after 12 minutes. Jamal Fyfield’s sliding tackle saw the ball run loose and James Walshaw fastened on to it and dribbled round Michael Ingham before shooting into the empty net.

Walker had a shot charged down and Paddy McLoughlin went down under a challenge, York’s appeals for a penalty being turned down before Darlington went ahead on 30 minutes, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson scoring from the penalty spot after Reed had been penalised for a push on Adam Rundle.

York should have equalised in stoppage time when Walker ran clear but delayed his shot.

After the break, Reed shot wide and Walker had a shot saved before he struck the equaliser 11 minutes from time when he turned quickly on the left and rocketed a tremendous shot into the roof of the net.
