Wycombe v York City: Wilcox undaunted by York’s tough schedule

A trip to league leaders Wycombe Wanderers today follows on from last weekend’s goalless draw at home to play-off hopefuls Plymouth Argyle.

With games against high-flying duo Southend United and Burton Albion to follow this month along with the visit of 10th-placed Stevenage to Bootham Crescent, Wilcox admits his team has a tough schedule.

But the Minstermen’s manager continued: “I don’t imagine many people expect us to get much at Wycombe. They are riding high.

“That said, though, we have taken eight points from the last four games and that has given us more confidence than we had a month ago.

“Everyone knows that January is a difficult month but December was a difficult one, too, and that went well. Why can’t we do the same again through January?”

York’s goalless draw at home to Plymouth came despite Wilcox’s men playing the final three-quarters of the game with 10 men following the dismissal of Stephane Zubar, who today starts a three-game ban.

It took the Minstermen five points clear of the drop zone, to leave their manager delighted.

“That was an afternoon when I was very proud of the players,” said Wilcox. “Plymouth are a top team so to play so long with 10 men and come away disappointed not to have won shows how well we played.

“If we can perform like that with 11 players on the pitch then we will be okay. Our target is to collect points. We have done our position a lot of good lately but we have to keep going.”
