York City 1 Crawley Town 1: Leaders Crawley held by plucky Minstermen

York City did well to take a point from runaway Conference leaders Crawley Town in a hard battle at Bootham Crescent before the biggest crowd of the season.

York made three changes from the side which drew at Kettering bringing in Michael Rankine, Scott Kerr and Liam Darville in place of Levi Mackin, Ashley Chambers and Andre Boucaud.

York deservedly went ahead after 14 minutes with a well-worked goal. Jonathan Smith started the move near the halfway line with a pass down the right for Rankine who cut in and squared the ball across goal for Smith, who ran 50 yards to side-foot home from close range.

York were close to adding to their lead when Kerr cracked in a 25-yard shot which drew a brilliant save from Scott Shearer.

Kerr was cautioned for a foul on Sergio Torres and then Chris Smith was shown a yellow card for a foul on Richard Brodie, the former York player.

Crawley grabbed a fortunate equaliser on 48 minutes when Torres shot from 15 yards and the ball took a massive deflection off Chris Smith to leave Michael Ingham helpless.

York had a late chance when Chambers set-up Jonathan Smith, but the York player shot inches wide.
