York City 3 Barrow 1: Walker on target as York put Barrow to the sword

York City were convincing winners over Barrow at Bootham Crescent after a sparkling first-half display had set them on the victory path.

Jason Walker put York ahead and Patrick McLaughlin added the second on the stroke of half-time and although Adam Boyes pulled one back for Barrow in the second half, Matty Blair made sure of the three points with an stoppage-time goal.

York played some superb attacking football before the interval when they should have had an unassailable lead. They had to be content with a two-goal cushion.

Walker saw a first-minute shot well saved by Danny Hurst but it was Walker who gave York the lead after seven minutes, a flowing move ending with Ashley Chambers having a shot blocked before Walker followed up the score.

Barrow were chasing shadows and Walker ran clear to chip the ball over the goalkeeper only to see the ball drift inches wide.

Blair missed a great chance when he ran through from a Walker pass only to shoot wide.

Michael Ingham saved from former York player Andy Ferrell in a rare Barrow attack before York went further ahead when James Meredith set up the chance for McLaughlin to shoot into Hurst’s left-hand corner.

Adriano Moke chipped over the bar for York while Walker had a shot well-saved before Barrow narrowed the gap when Boyes headed in Kelvin Lomax’s cross.

Lomax was sent off for a second yellow card in the second minute of stoppage time. York sewed up the points two minutes later when Blair scored with a low shot after being set up by team-mate Michael Potts.
