York City v Burton Albion: Brewers present big test for Minstermen

Up until the end of 2013, the Minstermen were struggling. A run of ten games without a clean sheet was bad, as was the manner in which York closed the year with no wins in the final 11 fixtures.

Since then, however, York’s season has been transformed and after six straight wins this month Nigel Worthington’s men are proving to be the team of the moment in League Two.

Another three points today and not only would the former Northern Ireland internal be a shoo-in for the Manager of the Month award but York could be sitting in a season’s high position of sixth.

Not, however, that a seventh straight victory in March will be easy with the visitors to Bootham Crescent being Burton Albion.

Defender Ben Davies said: “This is the biggest test we’ve had for a while now position wise as they are quite high up the table.

“But if we want to get promoted this season and make the play-offs than we have to beat the teams up there. It will be a good test to see where we are.”

York’s surge up the League Two table has come on the back of an incredible defensive run that has seen just one goal - scored by Exeter City’s Scot Bennett in his side’s 2-1 loss - conceded in the last nine games.

Davies added: “Clean sheets are always good and if we can keep them, we won’t lose games. Obviously that is a bonus and one or two goals are doing it for us at the minute.

“As long as that continues, we are happy. I feel we are more organised now and everyone knows their jobs.

“We made a few key signings in January as well but I believe we have become a lot more resilient as a team, which is always important.”
