The Minstermen are yet to claim a point in League Two after following the opening day loss at Wycombe Wanderers by allowing Hartlepool United to come from behind to triumph 2-1 on Saturday.

Despite that most recent defeat, Wilcox – whose side knocked Bradford City out of the Capital One Cup a week ago on penalties – believes York can claim that elusive first win against Yeovil Town.

He said: “I honestly feel we have got better with each performance this season. Hartlepool was better than Bradford and it was a travesty that we lost.

“There were so many positives to take out of the game, especially in that first half when we could have been three or four goals up.

“Right from the first whistle, we were on the front foot and we need more of the same against Yeovil. I believe we can mix things up a bit more this season in attack. Vadaine being here means we can go back to front a bit quicker if we want to. The key now, though, is that first win.”

Michael Coulson, meanwhile, could be out for a month with a groin injury.

Wilcox added: “It is frustrating for Michael. He played nearly every game last season but possibly did a little bit too much in the summer. Michael knew it was a big season and got his first niggle when training on his own.”
