York v Bury: Wilcox says 50 points is the priority for Minstermen

The Minstermen are at home for the second time in four days as promotion-chasing Bury head to Bootham Crescent tonight. As the League Two season enters the final 10 games, just three points separate second-bottom Tranmere from York in 20th place.

It shows that there will be little margin for error as the relegation scrap approaches its climax in the final weeks.

For Wilcox, the priority remains getting to 50 points as quickly as possible to keep the Minstermen one step ahead of their rivals near the bottom.

“Predicting how many points will keep a team up is not easy in any year. It can change massively from one season to the next.

“In the past, 51 has taken a team down while in other years 37 have been enough to stay up. This year, I would suggest it will be top-end 40s that is needed. That is why I want us to get to 50 points as quickly as possible, and then we can assess things from there,” said the York manager, who is chasing just a third home win.

Tonight, on-loan Spurs striker Shaq Coulthirst could be rewarded with his first start for York after a lively showing from off the bench in Saturday’s goalless draw with fellow strugglers Carlisle.
