On a weekend when five White Rose teams drew – with the main excitement comfortably coming in Rotherham’s 2-2 draw at Cardiff – the bouquets were thrown in the direction of the Tigers and the Reds, albeit for contrasting reasons.

Both clubs have a healthy representation in the Yorkshire Post’s ‘Team of the Weekend’:

1: Allan McGregor (Hull City). The Scot did not have a great deal to do at Fulham, but what he did, he did consummately well - the sign of a top-class goalkeeper. Big saves to deny Alex Kacaniklic and Jamie O’Hara at Craven Cottage at timely junctures.

2: Moses Odubajo (Hull City). The Londoner is enjoying a fine first season in East Yorkshire and his return to the capital was a sweet one. Made an excellent saving tackle to deny a home goal and earned the late penalty that enabled Abel Hernandez to return Hull to the top of the Championship.

3: George Williams (Barnsley). With George Smith on loan at Crawley, young Williams stepped into the breach in Aidy White’s injury absence and was afforded a dream day against Keith Hill’s Rochdale on his first start since the opening day of the season.

4: Harry Maguire (Hull City). Another assertive performance from the former Blades defender, who is grasping his chance in the heart of the City rearguard with both hands. Went close with a header.

5: Curtis Davies (Hull City). Like Maguire, has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Michael Dawson and Alex Bruce - and when the quartet are fully fit shortly, Steve Bruce will have a huge selection headache.

6: Chris Burke (Rotherham United). Brought in on loan for the rest of the season on Friday, the Scot showed flashes of genuine quality on the wing and displayed plenty of evidence as to why Neil Redfearn wanted him so much. The Millers chief deemed his debut as ‘excellent’ and remains confident that Burke’s crossing prowess will be good news for fellow new arrival Luciano Becchio.

7: Adam Hammill (Barnsley). In many ways, the catalyst for the Reds’ uplifting renaissance and posed problems aplenty for the Dale rearguard before succumbing to injury late on. Has looked a class apart on occasions since returning to Oakwell.

8: Jamie Paterson (Huddersfield Town). In pristine recent form and produced another strong performance, albeit in a losing cause as Town were edged out by Brighton at the Amex. Composed, offers a goal threat and makes things happen.

9: Jamie Proctor (Bradford City). Enjoyed a fine debut, which was crowned with a goal and was rightly lauded by manager Phil Parkinson. Provided the aerial threat that City without James Hanson and did not give the Vale defence a moment’s peace. Scored with a thumping header.

10: Sam Winnall (Barnsley). In irresistible form for the Reds and scored the perfect hat-trick – left foot, right foot and header. Playing with oodles of confidence and his partnership with Marley Watkins is working a treat at the minute. Fifteen goals for the season - and eight in his last five games.

11: Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday). Another striker in the zone with his well-executed and classy effort taking his tally to seven in his last seven matches. Gave himself an early birthday present as he turns 28 this week.

Manager: Lee Johnson (Barnsley). Enjoyed his best moment as Reds chief in Saturday’s outstanding slaying of Dale. After what he went through in the autumn - when he and the club had some dark moments - the wheel has turned full circle.
