The teams doing the county proud were Sheffield Wednesday and the managerless Barnsley.

However, there were impressive individual displays elsewhere that were worth commending.

Here is Yorkshire’s team of the week:

GK: George Long (Sheffield United). Made his 100th appearance for the Blades on Saturday. If it wasn’t for his penalty save, the 2-0 defeat would have been far worse. Not at fault for either goal.

RB: Jack Hunt (Sheffield Wednesday). Remains a consistent performer in an increasingly impressive Owls backline. Helped as Carlos Carvalhal’s side managed to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win.

CB: Richard Wood (Rotherham United). Wood made his first appearance for the Millers this season and played only his seventh league game for them since joining in the summer of 2014. Impressed but could not keep Bolton at bay.

CB: Giuseppe Bellusci (Leeds United). Bellusci is undergoing quite an exceptional turnaround at Leeds, consistently outperforming the rest of the club’s defensive options over the last month. Unfortunate to be on the losing end on Saturday.

LB: Aidan White (Barnsley). Once touted as a young prospect of some note, White might finally have found his home at Oakwell. Has performed consistently since joining them from Rotherham. Named man of the match on Saturday.

RW: Adam Hammill (Barnsley). Hammill has been rejuvenated since returning to League One. Was incredibly impressive in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final on Thursday and scored on Saturday to wrap up an impressive seventh win on the spin.

CM: Kirk Broadfoot (Rotherham United). Offered a consistent defensive shield in midfield for Rotherham on Saturday. The Millers played well despite defeat, and Broadfoot was one of their better players.

CM: Liam Bridcutt (Leeds United). Bridcutt dictated the play against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, attempting to probe and find gaps to exploit. Forest were too good defensively and kept Leeds out, but little of that was Bridcutt’s fault.

LW: Chris Burke (Rotherham United). Scored a second goal in two games for the Millers to seemingly put them in a good position to earn some points. Withdrawn just before the 70th minute, a result of Burke needing to regain match fitness.

ST: Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday). Scored two goals in the 77th and 79th minute to turn around Wednesday’s game against Birmingham City. The goalscorer that any side pushing for promotion needs.

ST: Sam Winnall (Barnsley). Amid Barnsley’s struggles, Winnall was always a high point. Now has 17 goals this season and is playing a big part in the Tykes pushing their way up the League One table.

Managers: Tommy Wright and Paul Heckingbottom (caretakers at Barnsley). It is never easy to sustain good displays after a manager leaves a club, but the Barnsley duo ensured Lee Johnson’s presence was not missed against Bury.
