Four-goal Tendler earns Hull victory

Jereme Tendler provided another masterclass in finishing as he struck all of Hull Stingrays’ goals in a vital 4-3 win in overtime over Edinburgh Capitals.

The visitors took a vital point home with them, but Tendler’s fourth of the night at 62.51 – and his 36th for the season – saw bottom club Hull close the gap on their Elite League play-off rivals.

Tendler and fellow forward Dominic Osman forced a number of saves from Capitals netminder Tomas Hiadlovsky, but it was the visitors who took the lead on the powerplay at 11.39 through Jade Portwood, with Matty Davies serving an interference penalty.

Less than two minutes into the second period and Hull were level, however, Tendler poking the puck home from close in before he edged Hull ahead, lifting the puck over Hiadlovsky at 32.24, although poor defending let the visitors back in, when Marcis Zebergs punished the home side.

Hull spurned a number of powerplay opportunities in the third and paid for it when Portwood fired home his second. But Tendler was in the right place again when he fired home on the powerplay, setting up the extra period where he then proceeded to strike the vital winner.

Sheffield Steelers eased through to the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup, overturning a two-goal deficit from the first leg by winning 9-4 on aggregate after a comprehensive 7-0 home rout of Dundee Stars.

As the 10-minute mark approached, two goals in less than 30 seconds from Shawn Limpright and Simon Ferguson, levelled the tie. Further strikes came from Jeff Legue, Ferguson, Tylor Michel, Rod Sarich and captain Jonathan Phillips.
