Frankie factor helps boost racing charity

It comes after Qatar-based Al Shaqab Racing promised to donate to Jack Berry House the winnings of 20 horses this season, including Osaila who won the Tattersalls Millions 2YO Fillies’ Trophy at Newmarket on Saturday in spectacular style.

The victory now means that Jack Berry House, the rehabilitation centre being built in Malton by the Injured Jockeys Fund, is now £400,000 better off thanks to the Al Shaqab Super 20.

Harry Herbert, racing advisor to Al Shaqab, commented: “All of the Al Shaqab team are delighted that Sheikh Joaan’s wonderful initiative has now raised over £400,000 for such a fantastic cause.”

Al Thikara’s win at Ascot boosted the coffers by a further £22,000, although there was disappointment when the Dettori-ridden The Wow Signal – trained at Malton by John Quinn – was last of the nine runners in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp yesterday.

There was, however, another landmark win for The Yorkshire Post’s columnist Danny Tudhope when he partnered Move In Time to a dramatic – and late – victory in the Prix de l’Abbaye, Europe’s top sprint, for Nawton trainer David O’Meara.

The horse’s owners include East Yorkshire businessman Reg Bond, a longstanding patron of racing locally, and Selby’s Andrew Turton who said: “Watching the race I was obviously praying that he would get a run and that a gap would emerge and when it did he went through it in a flash.”
