Leeds thrashed Scunthorpe United 4-0 at Elland Road while Hull City beat nine-man Barnsley 2-0 at the KC Stadium.

Micky Adams's Sheffield United pinched a point from a 0-0 draw at Coventry, while Doncaster Rovers crashed to a 3-0 defeat at home to Reading.

In League One, Huddersfield moved into second spot after thrashing Walsall 4-2, while Sheffield Wednesday came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with play-off rivals Charlton.

It was a bad day in League Two as both Rotherham United and Bradford City lost, but there was a win for in-form York City against Histon.

Matty Fryatt (66) netted from penalty spot, as Barnsley's Stephen Foster was red carded. Robert Koren added a late second as Jason Shackell became second visiting player to be sent off.

Sanchez Watt (17) put Whites ahead before Max Gradel (20) and Bradley Johnson (29) increased Leeds's advantage. Davide Somma (88) added a fourth goal.

Scott Wagstaff and a Johnnie Jackson penalty gave Addicks a 2-0 lead after five minutes. Paul Heffernan (47) and Reda Johnson (51) replied for the Owls.

Alex Nicholls (14) fired in long-range effort before Kevin Kilbane (19) equalised and Jamie McCombe (25) made it 2-1 to Town. Matt Richards (47) equalised for Walsall before Peter Clarke (77) and Jordan Rhodes saw Town regain the initiative
