County captain Jean Waring’s foursomes pairings played in the morning at Sandburn and the afternoon was spent honing their short game skills with the club’s head professional Robinson, who has worked all winter with the team.

The focus from Robinson – who also coaches the English Ladies national squad as well as Yorkshire’s men’s and boys’ teams - has been not just on technique but also on their mental attitude to the game and Waring has been impressed with the way the young team have approached training, including in some inclement weather.

“The 2015 team is quite a change from the team which won the championship last year, being a very young one,” said Waring. “I am really looking forward to watching them play. Team spirit is good and I am sure they will give a good account of themselves.

“I have watched all the girls mature and improve while I have been associated with Yorkshire Ladies. I walked round with Olivia Hamilton and Rochelle Morris when they played in their very first Yorkshire Junior competition so it is the culmination of my association with Yorkshire to be their County captain and lead out this young talented team.”

Alongside Cleckheaton’s Hamilton and Woodsome Hall’s Morris are Hamilton’s clubmate, Megan Clarke, Fulford’s Charlotte Austwick, Megan Lockett (Huddersfield), Holly Morgan, of Lees Hall, Hannah Holden (Lightcliffe), Rotherham’s Olivia Winning and Megan Garland (Selby).

Non-travelling reserves for the event, which runs from June 22-26, are Lucy Eaton (Skipton) and Woodsome Hall’s Melissa Wood.

“We are very fortunate in Yorkshire to have many stalwart supporters who are giving up their time to support the team, pulling their trolleys for them,” added Waring. “My vice-captain Dawn Clegg has been busy organising this support for which the team and I thank her.”

After facing Durham in their first match on Monday, Yorkshire will do battle with Cumbria, Cheshire, Lancashire and Northumberland in successive days.
