Kiran Matharu’s strong finish keeps alive hopes of earning LET card for 2016 season

Matharu carded a second consecutive 75, which added to her opening rounds of 68 and 69 saw her comfortably make the cut ahead of the final round.

However, after 16 holes she was in danger of falling adrift of the top 30 placings that will earn playing privileges on the Ladies European Tour next year.

The 26-year-old will go into the last day on Tuesday just one shot shy of those currently holding the coveted spots.

She retrieved one of the shots dropped at holes five and six with a birdie at eight, but then – for the second round running – she had a mid-round plunge.

On Sunday she had five bogeys in seven holes; yesterday she had four in five from the ninth.

But she showed tremendous fortitude to gain strokes at both of her closing two holes and is tied 35th.

Germany’s Karolin Lampert fired a four-under-par 68 on the same course – the event is being shared with Samanah – to keep her lead over Indian amateur Aditi Ashok heading into the last round.

Sixty seven players made the 72-hole cut at two over par.

Leading on 22 under par, Lampert is one ahead of Ashok, who also shot 68 on the Amelkis course. Denmark’s Daisy Nielsen, who was playing in the same group, carded a 69 to lie third on 14 under par.

Ashok, a high school student from Bangalore, won the Ladies British Amateur stroke play championship at Moortown in August.

With a course record-equalling seven-under-par 64, Linda Henriksson of Finland climbed 57 places on the leaderboard into a share of 26th place on three under.

The fifth and final round will be played at Samanah GC on Tuesday where the top 30 and ties will earn membership in Category 8, with the remainder being eligible for membership in Category 9b.
