Lockwood and Halley retain grip on Woodsome Hall foursomes crown

On a day of mixed weather, not even a cessation in play because of a storm could halt the pair who followed up a morning score of one-under-par 69 with a two-under par 68 second round to win the event by two shots from the leading amateurs, Bondhay’s Daniel Wasteney and Joe Dean (Lindrick).

Some of the best amateurs in the country, including four current England internationals, competed against professionals for a prize fund exceeding £4,000.

Head greenkeeper Chris Dyson and his staff had worked hard to ensure the course was in superb condition for the Galvin Green-backed event, with greens running at 13 on the stimp meter.

Dyson commented “The course has been in great condition all year and work done in the early part of the season is paying dividends for hosting such prestigious events.”

Club captain Andy Green said that the foursomes was superbly marshalled and organised and invited everyone back next year for a competition that is “going from strength to strength”.

The next top competition to be staged at Woodsome Hall will be the Northern Counties Golf Union Seniors Championship.
