Yorkshire dozen head for Hillside aiming for St Andrews
They are among a group of a dozen Yorkshire players – six professionals and six amateurs – who will compete in today’s 36-hole Final Qualifying competition at Hillside, Southport.
Woodsome Hall’s Chris Hanson will be hoping to repeat last year’s feat when he qualified for the Open at Royal Liverpool.

Hide AdNick McCarthy won the Regional Qualifying at his home course of Moortown eight days ago, but subsequently failed to make it through to the final day’s play of the Paul Lawrie Foundation Granite City Classic at Newmachar in Aberdeen on the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour.
Fellow EuroPro Tour members Marcus Armitage (Howley Hall) and Scott Campbell, of Hallowes – who finished second behind McCarthy at Moortown – also tee it up at Hillside dreaming of earning a place alongside the world’s golfing elite at St Andrews next month.
English amateur champion Nick Marsh (Huddersfield), Hull’s Steve Robins and Daniel Brown, of Bedale, made it through all four rounds of the Brabazon Trophy last week, tieing for 23rd, 27th and 50th places respectively.
Pontefract’s Simon Coumbe and Jordan Perry (Phoenix) who also qualified at Moortown, and Howley Hall’s Ben Hutchinson complete the Yorkshire contingent, the latter after being promoted from his position of seventh reserve.
