Birdies on the short 8th and par-5 14th proved crucial as they edged Sickleholme's Sam Harben and Cathy Riley by just a point.

Best-placed home pairing were Linda Mallinson and Virginia Young, who also amassed 36 points to finish fourth.

Prizes for nearest the pin on the eighth and 13th went to Claire Archbell and Miranda McKenzie respectively.

The course had been closed the day prior to the event due to a deluge and organisers Jackie Elam and Alison Tracey had their fingers crossed that a respite from the heavy rain would allow the third staging of the event to go ahead.

Fortune favoured them and 92 competitors - who had been treated to some retail shopping opportunities and mulled wine prior to tee-off - set off, no doubt enthused by the prospect of hot turkey sandwiches and mince pies to come apres golf.

Tracey said she and co-organiser Elam were thrilled to receive plenty of positive feedback from the competitors.

Already many have signed up for next year's event and there are spots available for only 13 pairings.
