Grand National: Yorkshire riders to keep an eye on today

HENRY BROOKE: After Becher Chase winner Highland Lodge failed to make the cut, the Middleham rider was switched to mudlark Aachen. Don’t be put off by the 100-1 odds – Aachen trainer Venetia Williams saddled Mon Mome to win in 2009 at this price.

BRIAN HUGHES: The North Yorkshire rider, who has just recorded his 100th winner of the campaign, rides O’Faolains Boy for Rebecca Curtis. Though No Welsh-trained runner has prevailed in more than a century, this is a former Grade One winner who was seventh to Don Cossack in last month’s Gold Cup.

JAMES REVELEY: The youngest member of a Saltburn racing dynasty, he partners Vieux Lion Rouge for Westcountry trainer David Pipe. Reveley struck up the connection with the owners after winning last year’s French Champion Hurdle on Un Temps Pour Tout.

ANDREW THORNTON: The oldest rider in the race, Thornton, who lives near Ripon, hopes the Paul Nicholls-trained Rocky Creek can take him one step nearer his 1,000th winner. The 43-year-old is 10 victories short of the milestone. Rocky Creek has twice completed the course.
