Huddersfield and Beverley are rampant

After two defeats Beverley got back to form with a fine 69-7 win over Bradford & Bingley, scoring 11 tries in the process and converting seven of them.

The game was marred by a serious injury to Beverley winger Lee Birch who was taken to hospital with concussion after play had been held up for 15 minutes while he received treatment on the pitch.

Beverley led 38-0 at half-time through tries by Joe Pickets (2), Tomasi Tanumi, Phil Duboulay, Rob Smith and Richard Bussey.

In the second half Bradford and Bingley worked hard to get back into the match, but they were never able to cope with the speed of the Beverley play and seldom looked like scoring.

They fell further behind to tries by Pickets, Tonci Buzov, Andy Meagher and Smith before James Morton scored a late consolation try which was converted by Nick Wainright. With the last action of the day Smith rounded off the win for Beverley scoring his third try and Duboulay slotting his seventh conversion.

Sandal bounced back from two successive derby defeats to score seven tries and record a 46-24 victory at home to Penrith.

Centre Simon Frewin and prop Rob Norbury put the hosts 12-0 up after 10 minutes, only for the visitors to draw level. Lock Tom Proctor added a third from a pushover but Penrith hit back again to level. However, flanker James Stuart and Frewin scored further tries and Sandal led 31-17 at the break. Winger Jake Mulhern added two more touchdowns.

Morley conceded a hat-trick to flanker Kieran Hibbs as they crashed to a 40-7 defeat at high-flyers Stockport. The Maroons trailed 23-0 at the break.

Hibbs pounced twice in five minutes at the beginning of the second half to take it to 35-0 before outside centre Ross Bayston broke through to score Morley’s only try.

Huddersfield ran up a half-century of points with their 50-17 success at bottom-club Firwood Waterloo. The Lockwood Park side are on a run of six victories from seven games.
