Hull City v Swansea City: Pearson backs his Tigers squad

Championship: AS the focus returns to the pitch after a trying summer for Hull City and their supporters, Nigel Pearson has underlined the faith he has in the KC Stadium squad.

The Tigers are back in the Championship following relegation from the top flight last May.

City host Swansea City in what will not only be Pearson's first game as manager but also Brendan Rogers, who replaced Leicester City-bound Paulo Sousa at the Liberty Stadium during the summer.

Hull's new manager said: "A lot of teams believe they have a realistic chance of having success. We are one of those and we are looking forward to getting that competitive edge."

Pearson will be without record signing Jimmy Bullard as City continue their attempts to get the 45,000 per week midfielder off their wage bill before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

The Hull manager is hoping to have John Bostock available today after the Tottenham Hotspur youngster spent the second half of the week training in the East Riding.

Complications caused by the Tigers' financial problems are understood to have originally delayed the season-long loan deal.

But last night Bostock joined Hull following talks between owner Russell Bartlett and the Premier League, yet it is unclear whether he will be registered in time to play today.
