Hull star Finch closing in on place in Dubai

RICHARD FINCH still has work to do to climb into the Race to Dubai's top 60 despite an encouraging week in Spain.

The 33-year-old from Hull finished 19th at the Castello Masters and improved a place to 62nd on the European Tour's standings with just four events left before the top 60 are invited to contest the lucrative Dubai World Championship.

John Parry has dropped to 40th after finishing a shot better than Finch in 13th, yet it has still been an encouraging season for the 23-year-old Harrogate rookie.

Malton's Simon Dyson is down in 36th while Sheffield's Danny Willett held onto 19th place despite missing the event with a rib fracture, which keeps him out of the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama on Thursday. Finch, Parry and Dyson are among the 96-strong field.

Matteo Manassero, the 17-year-old Italian whose four-shot triumph at the Castello Masters made him the European Tour's youngest winner, is up from 164th to 88th in the world.

German Martin Kaymer has moved to a career-high third and either he or England's Lee Westwood will end the 282-week reign of Tiger Woods this week.

Westwood is still nursing a calf injury and misses the Andalucia Masters but will still claim the No 1 spot if Kaymer finishes outside the top two at Valderrama.
