The 36-year-old also guided Steelers to the Challenge Cup final and play-off showpiece last season, losing to Cardiff Devils and Coventry Blaze, respectively.

Adams, who had two years with the club as a player from 2003-05, had won the play-off title with Steelers as well in 2013/14 having taken over from Doug Christiansen in February.

A Steelers statement read: “The Sheffield Steelers confirm they have released Gerad Adams from his contract with the club.

“The decision comes after an end-of-season review by club ownership and management on the direction the Steelers need to take moving forward.

“We would like to thank Gerad for his work and achievements during his time with us. Winning the league title on the back of the previous year’s play-off success is something he should be very proud of.

Work is already under way on Gerad’s replacement as well as new players.”
