I'll be looking to prove a point to my mates among the Dragons

Former Australian Test star Shaun Berrigan, 32, is relishing the opportunity of tackling some of his former team-mates when Hull FC welcome French visitors. Here is his guest column.

THERE will be a lot of familiar faces for me when we take on Catalans Dragons tonight.

I played with Casey McGuire and Dane Carlaw at Brisbane Broncos, winning the NRL Grand Final alongside them in 2006.

Going back even further, I played in another with their coach Kevvie Walters in 2000. Obviously they are some great memories.

I always enjoy playing against mates as you like to prove a thing to them and that'll be no different this evening.

Casey's pretty important to Catalans' chances.

He's only been back from injury a few weeks but when Casey plays well, Catalans generally play well too.

He's pretty versatile and has been featuring a bit at scrum-half too as well as hooker.

He'll be a danger for them but Clint Greenshields is back for Catalans as well and he's an excellent player at full-back.

They seem to be seeing players return at just the right time and getting a win against Wakefield last week – ending a nine-game losing run – means they'll arrive here at the KC Stadium with confidence.

We have to respond after losing at Huddersfield. We were 18-0 up but let it slip.

In the first half we completed our sets and chased hard. In the second period we just turned over too much ball and penalties.

Huddersfield had 23 sets and we only had nine. That's always going to make it hard for yourself when you have to make that much tackling it takes it out of you.

You can't afford to do it nowadays against any Super League side.

However, there's no despondency. It's never good to lose but you can't win every week; no team is going to go in from now until the end of the season undefeated.

Hopefully we'll learn from that loss and that second-half performance should act as a big learning curve; when you are

18-0 in front, you don't have to do anything special – just complete your sets. It's simple.

One player who has been playing really well for us is Danny Houghton who has just signed a new deal at KC.

He did 80 minutes at Saints the other week and was outstanding.

He's a good, young player with a great work ethic.

At the moment, as hookers, we're doing a lot of work together in training and pushing each other hard.

He's starting games now and is certainly Hull's future No 9. He's going to be there for years to come and I'm glad to see him developing like he is.
