Injury forces Ennis-Hill out of World Championships
A year on from winning Olympic gold in such stunning fashion, the 27-year-old heptathlete had hoped to now take the world crown in Moscow.
However, Ennis-Hill has only recently recovered from Achilles problems and was some way below her best in both the hurdles and long jump at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games last weekend.

Hide AdThe Sheffield athlete said she did not want to go to Russia to make up the numbers and, together with her coach Toni Minichiello and medical team, has today announced the decision to pull out.
“Up until now we have been focusing on managing the pain so I can train and get myself in shape to go out there to win in Moscow, which has meant not focusing on finding a cure for the injury,” Ennis-Hill said.
“The time has now come to stop chasing fitness and look to cure the problem.
