Injury problems continue to plague stuttering Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos yesterday suffered a fresh blow in a troubled season after specialists revealed New Zealand international Greg Eastwood has suffered a wrist injury that will rule him out for at least 10 weeks.

The Kiwi international suffered the fractured wrist in the win over Harlequins last Friday and has seen a specialist this week to confirm the extent of the injury.

Coach Brian McClennan said: "We are all disappointed for Greg especially as he has settled in really well to our squad since his arrival.

"Every team will suffer injuries over the course of a season and we have every confidence in our squad to deal with the challenges we face."

The injury blow comes as Leeds look to get their season back on track after a World Club Challenge defeat to Melbourne Storm has coincided with a stuttering start to the Super League campiagn, with two defeats in their first five games.

Tomorrow, they face a tough trip to Huddersfield Giants (3.00), who will be in confident mood following last weekend's 52-0 demolition of Wakefield Trinity.

Last season, the Rhinos romped to a 36-4 win at the Galpharm Stadium, but Giants coach Nathan Brown insists his side have come a long way in the last 12 months.

"Nobody will be getting carried away," said Brown.

"Wakefield are a good side but Leeds Rhinos have been the champions for the last three seasons and they have a side that is full of international players.

"This time last year, we played Leeds at around a similar time and at that point I don't think we quite had the belief that we could beat them.

"This time around, we have genuine belief that we are in with a chance of turning them over.

"That doesn't mean it will necessarily be the case, but having that belief is a good sign that we are moving forward as a club.

"This week is about us improving on what we are trying to do rather than worrying about our opposition.

"They have had a settled roster for a couple of years now and we are quite aware of what they are capable of doing.

"It's about us doing a good job defensively for long periods and in attack building on our first five weeks. If we do that and keep improving then we will give ourselves a chance."

Tonight, Castleford and Bradford are in action. The Tigers travel to the south of France to play Catalans Dragons (5.30), while the Bulls are at Warrington (6.30).

The Tigers will hand new loan signing Mike Cooper his debut while prop Paul Jackson picked up a groin injury in last week's defeat at Hull and is replaced by Joe Westerman, who missed the trip to the KC Stadium.
