Jersey 22 Doncaster Knights 10: People haven't seen the last of us, says Clive Griffiths

Doncaster were well-beaten by a Jersey side with whom they have shared many a good tussle down the years.

But they were second best against a bright Reds team who won by four tries to one.

“Full credit to Jersey who took their chances to win the game, but we were frustrated by the officials and the penalty count was going against us until we got a couple of compassionate calls near the end,” said Griffiths.

“When things aren’t going for you, the calls seem to go against you as well – we’ve been going through a difficult period, but people haven’t seen the last of us.”

Jersey started brighly with Kieran Hardy and Tom Pincus giving them a platform to succeed with two tries, one of which was converted.

Doncaster then suffered a spate of injuries during the game that disrupted their flow and the hosts took full advantage, racing into a 22-3 lead midway through the second half with Hardy again crossing before captain Nick Selway put the result beyond doubt.

There was still time for Doncaster to put a try on the board.

A nice break down the left hand side by Tyson Lewis was moved in field and from there the forwards ground out the hard yards. Having got to within a metre a 
penalty went the Knights’ way, the pack held the ball to maul over the line with Ben Hunter finishing it off.

Dougie Flockhart added the extras, but it proved to be just a consolation, leaving Doncaster to concentrate on the league.
