Johnson-Thompson will be kept busy in Sheffield

Much attention will surround Liverpool’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson who has entered for five events.

The temporary absence of Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis has put the 21-year-old in the pole position for the Commonwealth Games heptathlon and she will be aiming also for the World Indoor pentathlon.

In this weekend’s Northern event she will be kept busy and is listed for the 60 metres, hurdles, long jump and shot as well as the triple jump.

Leeds City’s Racheal Bamford, a Yorkshire and Inter Counties champion on the track, is looking to add to her honours and will be in action on both days having entered both the 800 and 1500 metres.

Following his spectacular win in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships, Hallamshire’s Andy Heyes switches to the track in the 3000 metres where he is up against the formidable Jonny Mellor (Liverpool).

Following his stay in the USA, Heyes is more experienced than most on the indoor scene.

Luke Cutts (Dearne ALC), whose aim is a place in the World Indoor Championships, is hot favourite in the pole vault with his club mate Adam Hague challenging him as well as contesting the Under-20 age group.

There is a full programme for the Under-20 and Under-17 age groups. Skyrac’s Jordan Bransberg has entered the under 20 1500 metres.

With a best time inside 3;50, Bransberg is firm favourite. Under-17 double sprint champion Kristie Edwards (City of Sheffield) will be looking for further titles in her move up to the Under-20 age group.
