Knights surge on with Lewis nabbing double

Doncaster made it six wins out of six as they overcame a bus breakdown en route to the capital to beat Richmond 36-19.

There were no signs of the long journey of the day before affecting them, though, as Doncaster started brightly, Shaun Jones bagging the first try from the back of a maul.

After falling behind to three penalties by Tom Platt, Mat Clark burst forward for Doncaster’s second try, Paul Roberts again converting.

Tyson Lewis finished off a slick move shortly after the break before a catch-and-drive finished off by Roberto Santamaria secured the bonus point for Clive Griffiths’s Knights.

Richmond fought back and pulled to within nine points at 
28-19, but Doncaster eased the pressure with a long-range penalty from Roberts and a second score from Lewis after a good team move.

Below-par Hull Ionians lost 30-5 at home to Blaydon after starting confidently but going behind to a penalty by Andrew Baggett.

After a period of stalemate, Blaydon centres Tom Banks and Tom Grimes combined to send winger Tom Jeffery over from 15 metres, Baggett converting and adding a further penalty before the break.

Blaydon opened the second half with a try from flanker Keith Laughlin following a driving maul before Ionians’ Chris Reakes squeezed in at the corner for a try. Blaydon responded with Harry Bate scoring a converted try before they earned a bonus point with their fourth try on the stroke of full time through Banks.

Wharfedale competed for the first 30 minutes before losing 51-10 at Rosslyn Park.

Scott Sneddon and Tom Barrett exchanged penalties before Josh Pell gave the Greens the lead as Park were down to 14 men.

Sneddon kicked two penalties before Park struck with two tries, one converted, and another penalty to make it 24-8 at the break.

Wharfedale scored two tries in the second half through Tom Davidson after a magnificent forward drive and Myers but they spent most of it driven back by the Londoners pack, conceding 27 more points in the process.
