Late surge enough for Carr to triumph

CYCLING: Leeds veteran Brent Carr timed his effort to perfection to win the feature race of the Stockton Cyclo-Cross meeting at Preston Park in Stockton-on-Tees.

The 44-year-old, riding for the Here Come The Belgians team, tracked leader Joe James for the whole race before attacking with less than half a lap to go and going clear to secure his first ever victory.

Youth rider William Turley (Team Fulford Cycle Racing), 14, and 46-year-old veteran Giles Bailey (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) proved a winning combination in the Yorkshire CCA’s End of Season cyclo-cross Madison at Sowerby Bridge.

Riding alternate laps of the SBCI Cricket Club course, Bilbrough-based Turley and Bailey took the honours ahead of veteran Ian Taylor (Jedi Cycle Sport) and his under-12 partner Megan Wikinson, with third place going to Tim Evans (Harrogate Nova CC) and Harry Fox (East Bradford CC) after 10 laps ridden in pouring rain.

In road racing, Ilkley CC’s Ben Hallworth finished third in the second round of the Velo 29 Winter Series at the Croft Racing Circuit in North Yorkshire behind winner Charlie Tanfied (Adept Precision RT) and Nathan Wilson (Clay Cross RT).
