Leeds Rhinos 70 Blackpool Panthers 22: Webb rises to the challenge as Blackpool suffer in Cup demolition

Carnegie challenge cup: New Zealand full-back Brent Webb scored five of his side's 12 tries as Leeds brushed aside the spirited challenge of part-timers Blackpool to stroll through to the quarter-finals of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

The Panthers trailed just 24-16 at the interval but the gulf in standards between the Cup favourites and a team two divisions below them proved too much in the end as Leeds scored regularly after the break, with winger Michael Coady registering a second-half hat-trick.

It was a ruthless demonstration of finishing by the Rhinos and captain Kevin Sinfield was almost immaculate with the boot, converting all but one of his side's 12 tries.

It took the Super League champions just 48 seconds to open the scoring, with makeshift scrum-half Webb supporting Lee Smith's break to score the first of two first-half tries.

Ryan Hall scorched 70 metres for his 11th try in five matches and Lauitiiti crashed over as Leeds showed their attacking flair but the Panthers refused to be intimidated.

Martin Ainscough scored one try and made another for John Clough and Damien Munro struck for a third try on the stroke of half-time, with Tom Hemingway kicking a second conversion to cut the gap to just eight points.

However, any chance of an upset was snuffed out within four minutes of the re-start as Leeds hit the visitors with quickfire tries from Webb and Brett Delaney.

Substitute Kris Ratcliffe briefly stemmed the onslaught with a fourth Blackpool try but tries from Coady, Greg Eastwood and Webb completed the Rhinos scoring.
