London 2012: Day 10 - Adams makes history, Laugher in diving action

Women’s boxer Nicola Adams is guaranteed a medal after winning her quarter-final bout at London 2012. Follow the action here.

With her fellow boxer Luke Campbell of Hull also guaranteed a medal after reaching the bantamweight semis yesterday, Adams booked her place in the last four of the flyweight contest with a convincing 16-7 points victory over Stoyka Petrova of Bulgaria.

The 29-year-old flyweight from Leeds now meets Mery Kom of India on Wednesday at the ExCel Arena, for a place in Thursday’s final.

Also today, Harrogate’s Jack Laugher, 17, goes in the preliminary round of diving’s 3m springboard this evening.

Rotherham sailor Paul Goodison has relinquished his Olympic laser title in Weymouth with Australian Tom Slingsby taking gold.

Goodison has been struggling with a back injury all week.

There are also big games for Sheffield’s Nate Reinking as the GB men’s basketball team conclude their campaign needing to beat China.

Also, Scarborough’s Steven Larsson and the handball team play Iceland.

Already today, Leeds Met student Laura Weightman has qualified for the semi-finals of athletics’s 1,500m.

She finished sixth in her heat in a time of 4min 07.29 secs to progress to Wednesday’s semi.

“I’m really pleased to get in the top six in what was a tough race,” said Weightman, 21.

“My last 200 metres was my best 200 metres.

“The crowd were absolutely brilliant. When my name was announced it was a brilliant feeling.”
