Lucinda and Melissa go in at the double

SCOTTISH rider Millie Manners, riding the five-year-old Waxwing Pringle, took the overall supreme championship at the North and East Yorkshire County Show at Richmond EC. Mollie took two Royal International tickets besides the Pretty Polly Championship.

THE BSPS Winter Championships at Grantham produced some excellent wins from the Yorkshire area, especially for Jerome Harforth from Great Ayton with Barbara Elliott's four-year-old mare Rhyllandell Rosella by Willowcroft Regal Bronze.

Ridden by 14-year-old Lucinda Elliott, they took both the Winter Novice and Winter Open Championships.

Melissa McCluskey also had a good show with the five-year-old Hinwood Two Thyme, taking both her International and HOYS tickets in the 148cm show pony sections and working hunter championship with the 16-year-old Welsh B gelding Milford Funtime by Daimur Figurehead, bred by Kim Money.

Henrietta Nielson, 11, from Burley-in-Wharfedale had a double celebration as well, qualifying for both the International and HOYS in the 138cm show pony section with the 12-year-old mare Kingsford Sweet Story.

The pony is owned by her mother, Jeanette, and produced by the Ahern family at Aire View Equestrian Centre, Keighley. This was only Henrietta's third show with the pony.

Kirsty Ahern also did well riding Unlimited, gaining her ticket for HOYS in the intermediate show hunter class and she had a second in the International qualifiers. Kirsty and Unlimited were reserve champions in the Intermediate HOYS Championship. "It's his first season showing and I'm over the moon with him," said a delighted Kirsty. The horse is owned by her parents, Paddy and Jayne Ahern.

Olivia Lyall, from Scarborough, won the junior riders Heritage working hunter with the Cumbrian-bred Helsington Goody Tiptoes and Jenna Tate, from Grantley, had a win in the Heritage ridden with her six-year-old Connemara gelding,Clogher Valley Gold.

The Reserve Supreme went to Jan Darwin, from Sessay, with the coloured horse Pintofields Alabama, which took the Associate tri-colour.

The Randy Allison Area 3a Supreme went to Lindy Burnip, riding the eight-year-old Seatshill Little Rogue by Kilvington Scoundrel, bred by Great Yorkshire steward Liz Lorrimar.

Reserve went to Sarah Hemsworth riding the 10-year-old Orleys Wishful Joker which took their International ticket in 143cm show hunter pony and is produced by James Hunton. James also produced a double win and show pony champion with Wayne Merryweather's six-year-old Rosame Golden Promise out of his award-winning mare Goldsborough Princess Royal, ridden by Lucinda Elliott. Her sister Samantha had success with the 12 hands Premier League winner Aquilas Norse Dancer and Moluccas Perfect Peppercorn.

Georgina Butterworth, from Ilkley, took the 15 hands ticket and the show hunter pony with the six-year-old Pendle First Light.

Beth Smart, 11, from Sutton Bank, daughter of racehorse trainers Vicky and Brian, will be making her debut in the 13 hands show hunter riding the Welsh B pony Wedderlie Marengo.

Jerome Harforth produced the champion part-bred arab Hinwood Two Thyme, ridden by Melissa McCluskey, and reserve Premier League champion Penny Royal Brown Sugar, ridden by Julie Bankier. The reserve part-bred arab went to Sarah Emerson riding Chinook Time Out; Sarah also led the four-year-old Barkway Tiara, ridden by eight-year-old Anna Tuer, and reserve went to Phoebe Borrowdale, riding Westway Twilight Rose.

Jenna Tate (nee Cox) from Grantley qualified her home-bred five-year-old part-bred arab Rhyllandell Falcon by Colobeach Night Flight out of Whalton Catchword and a grandson of Yealand Night Owl. Jenna's daughter Amy came second in the lead rein with Brookwater Thumbelina.

The intermediate championship went to the new partnership of Michaela Wood, from Harrogate, and the 10-year-old Royal Angel.
