More woe for Scimitars

SHEFFIELD SCIMITARS' slide continued in the EPL when they crashed to two narrow defeats at the weekend.

A 5-4 overtime defeat at Bracknell Bees on saturday was followed by a 4-2 reverse against Peterborough Phantoms at iceSheffield, meaning a repeat of the defeats suffered against the same opponents the previous weekend.

Jon Rowbotham's side - missing Stephen Wallace after he was released during the week - went in 1-0 ahead against Peterborough thanks to Tom Squires reacting quickest to a rebound at 19.32.

James Morgan levelled for the visitors early in the second before Scimitars restored their one-goal lead at 27.16 courtesy of Lee Haywood.

But two goals in the space of two minutes - the first from the stick of Morgan at 35.17 before Brent Gough added a third - gave Peterborough a lead they were to hold on to, extending their advantage through James Spurr on a breakaway at 49.13.

That results made for a demoralising weekend for Scimitars, particulrly after the nature of Saturday's defeat at Bracknell where they were leading 4-3 with only seconds to go in the third period before their hosts snatched an equaliser.

To rub salt into the wounds, the quickly-improving Bees struck a winner 34 seconds before the end of overtime through Michal Pinc to grab the extrea point.

Scimitars' goals all came in the middle period through Matt Haywood, Steve Duncombe and Mark Stewart.
