Morley 25 Ampthill 38: Morley bow out at first hurdle

LEADING 25-19 with 20 minutes remaining, National Three North champions Morley conceded three late tries and lost out to Ampthill in the new event.

Morley led 19-14 at half-time, but National Three (Midlands) winners Ampthill proved too strong after the break and go forward to the next stage on May 1.

Ampthill took an early 14-0 lead with winger Adam Shaw and centre Tom Raven scoring tries which stand-off Keiran Davis converted.

Morley full-back Scott Evans touched down after 13 minutes and winger Simon Bradshaw added the conversion, before scoring a try on 22 minutes. When centre Michael Ash scored on 31 minutes and Bradshaw converted, Morley were 19-14 ahead.

Penalties on 48 and 58 minutes put Morley 25-14 ahead, but the Midlands side hit back strongly with four unanswered tries through captain Phil Lane, Ben Brierley (2), and prop Tom Barrett.
