Mr Wolf bites into a Haydock sandwich at competitive Catterick

VISITORS to York Racecourse tomorrow will need to forgive me.

I’ll be on the other side of the Pennines at Haydock Park for one of its big meetings of the season.

But I will offer double value – an insight into my best chances on Merseyside and my thoughts on trainer Richard Fahey’s runners on Knavesmire.

Last week’s Dante Festival was memorable for me for both good and frustrating reasons.

I started off with several runner-up spots, Rose Blossom reared in the stalls in the Duke of York Blue Square Stakes, but then the concluding day was excellent when two of the horses I mentioned in last week’s column – Miss Work Of Art and Tepmokea – both won.

Keep an eye out for them in future.

It’s a busy old Friday for me.

Haydock in the afternoon and then a quick drive up to Catterick for the evening meeting.

It’s always competitive at the North Yorkshire track, and the one that I reckon could offer me my best chance of a winner is the veteran Mr Wolf in the 7.50pm race which will be – amazingly – his 100th race on turf.

It’s back to Haydock tomorrow for a very hot card indeed.

I’ll be delighted to come away with one winner, and I rate my best one to be Polar Kite in the Silver Bowl at 2.30pm.

He’s a horse that I like a lot, and he won his maiden at York last summer. He won for me on his seasonal debut at Ripon last month, and that can only have done him a power of good.

Tomorrow’s big race at Haydock is the Betfred.com Temple Stakes at 3pm, the first sprint in the new Qipco British Champions Series.

I’m on Rose Blossom who had that misfortune last week.

I will need to get her in front, as she sulks when she’s behind other horses.

It’s not going to be easy at all, and we also have to contend with some fantastic opposition, including last year’s winner Kingsgate Native and the ‘Budapest Bullet’ Overdose who has lost only one of his 16 races.

It’s the May Spring meeting at York Racecourse tomorrow.

Richard Fahey has plenty of runners, and my weighing room colleague Lee Topliss is in the saddle for most of them. Halla San didn’t get the best draw in the Chester Cup earlier this month. Back in claiming company in a mile and a half race sponsored by sportingbet.com at 2.05pm, he would have a good squeak.

Cracking Lass was just beaten recently at Hamilton Park, and would certainly have a chance in the Listed Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup just over an hour later at 3.10pm.

After running during the Dante Festival, Johannes goes for the sportingbet.com Sprint at 3.40pm.

He missed the break last week when he anticipated the stalls opening and he had been favourite.

He has a very big chance of putting that right tomorrow.

The two-year-old One Kool Dude is knocking on the door and still looking for his first win.

It would be nice if he could do it tomorrow in the Yorkshire Regiment EBF Median Auction Maiden Stakes at 4.15pm.

Have a good day at York Races.

The next fixture at York is tomorrow when the races include the Listed Stowe Family Law LLP Grand Cup.
