Murrayfield round-up: Rhinos beat Wakefield, but defeat for Bradford and Hull FC

BRADFORD BULLS delivered a mistake-ridden performance as their impressive five-match unbeaten run was clinically ended 19-0 by Crusaders in the opening game of Magic Weekend.

Coach Steve McNamara also saw star scrum-half Matt Orford limp off injured as his side toiled against the Welsh outfit who built up a 13-0 interval lead with Michael Witt dominating.

The Australian stand-off broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute after Gareth Thomas had taken Orford's poor kick and raced 60 metres downfield.

He converted his own score and - after the Bulls failed to capitalise during some sustained pressure - added a drop goal two minutes before the break.

With just seconds remaining, Witt then sneaked over again after Vince Mellars off-loaded from his kick and converted once more.

Bradford failed to improve after the re-start and failed to score for the first time since 2006.

Bulls full-back Brett Kearney had an effort ruled out by the video official before debutanat

Jarrod Sammut confirmed the Welsh success with a 71st minute try which Witt improved again.

Harlequins continued their Super League revival with a convincing 25-8 victory over injury-hit Hull at Murrayfield.

Chad Randall, Will Sharp, Luke Dorn, on-loan Warrington winger Kevin Penny and Luke Gale all touched down as Quins secured back-to-back victories following last week's stunning defeat of Wigan.

The second match of the Magic Weekend proved a dismal affair for Hull who, missing a clutch of key players, managed only late replies through Danny Houghton and Tom Briscoe.

Danny Buderus scored a 77th minute try to save Leeds Rhinos tonight and deal crestfallen Wakefield a cruel blow in a 34-30 defeat.

The brave Wildcats - 28-10 up during the first half - seemed all set to record a double over their West Yorkshire rivals for the first time in Super League history.

But after Ryan Hall completed his hat-trick, Australian hooker Buderus popped up to support Keith Senior's break at the death and sneak victory for the champions at Magic Weekend.

Leeds now move up to seventh, their highest position since the opening round, but they had to work hard against a spirited Wakefield in Edinburgh.

John Kear's side scored five first half tries through Ireland international winger Damien Blanch (2), Ben Jeffries, Paul Johnson and Tevita Leo-Latu.

Hall scored his second try just before the interval to claw back some of the deficit for Leeds who lost scrum-half Rob Burrow to a knee injury.

Brent Webb also notched a try to make it 28-16 at the break and then came the second half onslaught.

Leeds penned Wakefield back for much of the half but Jeffries' 54th minute penalty looked like it might be enough to keep the Wildcats in front.

However, Hall grabbed his treble in the 63rd minute and then - after huge pressure - Senior roared clear, Webb supported and Buderus just managed to get to the line.
