After nine minutes Cinderford’s George Mills went over from a catch and drive to which Michael Wilcox added the extras.

’Dale’s response came with a defence splitting break from Philip Woodhead. Will Bell was on hand to finish the move under the posts and Jamie Guy had no problems with the kick.

Perhaps the best move of the game, involving crisp handling and strong support play, led to Marcus Brown taking Cinderford back into the lead with a converted try. But the Greens finished the first half the stronger and a converted penalty try left the sides tied at 14-14 at half-time.

A 20-metre catch and drive saw Howick awarded an unconverted try which nudged Dale in front.

Cinderford’s forwards scored two more tries, Brown adding a second unconverted try and Exeter Chiefs player, Jerry Sexton, reestablishing their lead with a converted try.

But Howick crashed over
again and Guy nailed a nerve-jangling conversion from the touchline to earn Wharfedale three points.

Rosslyn Park showed no mercy to Hull Ionians, running out 49-0 winners.

The Priory Lane side ran in eight tries on their way to a 10th league win, which leaves them seventh in the table and 16 points clear of Ionians, who are 11th.

A penalty from stand-off Tom Whelan on 14 minutes was followed by scrum-half Will Crow’s first try, and after winger Sam Wilson was yellow-carded for foul play a minute later, Rosslyn Park extended their lead with winger David Vincent touching down and Whelan adding the extras to lead 15-0 with half an hour on the clock.

Left-winger Mark Kohler ran in twice in the space of five minutes after the break to extend their lead to 25-0, and Vincent’s second try came on 56 minutes, Whelan adding the conversion to make it 32-0.

Replacement Hugo Ellis ran in for tries on 68 and 77 minutes, and Crow added his second in the final minute, Whelan compounding Ionians’ misery with the conversion.
