National Three: Chitabura’s double helps Sandal build up six-match unbeaten run

Sandal took an early lead with a try by centre Tom Burns, full-back Ian Jackson converting. Chitabura’s first try extended the lead to 14-3 and he scored his second seven minutes later, Jackson’s conversion making the half-time score 21-3.

With 10 minutes left the hosts made space for centre Elliot Munelley to score the bonus-point try which Jackson improved.

Morley made it five games unbeaten but they left it late to secure a 23-10 home win over Burnage.

The Maroons trailed 10-7 at half-time with only a converted try from Ross Bayston to show for their efforts.

Captain and stand-off Mark Chester levelled matters with a penalty but it wasn’t until the 70th minute that substitute lock Tom Hanson broke through for a try and the lead.

Chester added a penalty three minutes later and No7 Peter Dadswell completed the scoring with a third try.

Winger Elliott Hodgson scored twice for Huddersfield who snatched a last-gasp try to earn a 31-31 draw at Sale.

The visitors made a solid start with two tries securing a 10-0 lead before Hodgson’s first, converted by fly-half Tom Hodson, increased the advantage to 17-7.

By half-time Sale had nosed ahead 19-17.

Two more quick tries in the second half extended Sale’s lead to 31-17 but Hodgson scored again and Hodson converted.

Then, with the last play, hooker Jonathan Davis scored a try and Hodson converted to earn the draw.

Beverley ran in four tries to secure a bonus point victory following a thrilling 21-31 win at Rossendale.

Both sides made light of the heavy conditions to produce some thrilling rugby.

Beverley took a 10-0 lead with a try by James Holland and a conversion and penalty by fly-half Phil Duboulay.

Three penalties by fly-half James Bramhall brought Rossendale to within a point at 10-9.

Beverley stretched their lead with a converted try by Tomasi Tanumi only for Kane Bevan to respond with one for Rossendale.

In the second half Beverley went three scores clear with converted tries by Tomasi and Rob Smith before prop Leyton Taylor touched down for a late consolation try for Rossendale.

Bradford and Bingley dominated hosts Penrith, posting five tries in a 34-5 win that lifted them above relegation rivals Firwood Waterloo, who went down 20-13 at fourth-placed Stockport.

Brett Mitchell was first over the line for the Bees in the fifth minute before centre Lisate Tafa doubled his side’s advantage to enable scrum-half Richard Scull to add the two points.

It became 19-0 in the 34th minute when Daniel Cookson’s effort was converted by Scull and that was how it stayed until half-time.

Second-half tries followed from Cookson and Adam Malthouse, Scull converting one and adding a 65th-minute penalty.
