However, Fylde competed strongly throughout and were in serious contention until the last two minutes of normal time. Then two tries saw Harrogate run away with the match.

Harrogate's first try came when winger Jamie Broadley supported a well constructed back move and Mike Aspinall converted.

A series of driving mauls enabled Fylde's Alistair Atkinson to touch down before No 8 Ryan Peacey supported Chris Harris's run to extend the home lead.

Excellent turnover ball set up another slick backs move and Ed Smithies made the overlap to score in the corner, Aspinall converting.

Mike Waywell replied with a penalty but, on the stroke of half-time, a smartly-taken drop goal by Aspinall made it 22-8 at the interval.

After the break, it was Fylde who scored first when Waywell broke through some loose tackling to touch down and convert.

Harrogate lost the influential Peacey with a nasty head cut and Fylde mounted attacks but Harrogate stood firm.

With time running out, Steve Parsons's break was supported by Harris and replacement hooker Aarin Yorke took the scoring pass at speed for a converted try which earned the bonus point.

Fylde attempted a counter attack from deep but the ball was spilled and Smithies hacked on for Harris to pick up and score.

In the last move, Fylde spurned a penalty to go for another try but failed to breach the defence.

Hull Ionians 3

Westoe's dynamic pack and their ever-present back-row ensured the home team were always in control, though when Hull Ionians backs had the ball the always posed a threat.

Ionians had the slope advantage for the first half but struggled to retain enough possession to make it count.

Charlie Raynor kicked penalties for Westoe on 12 and 22 minutes, but did not convert a try from Chris Clark.

Ionians had the better of the second quarter with James Greene and Oli Marns both making ground.

Persistent killing of the ball brought Westoe a yellow card in the second half and James Ferguson struck one out of two penalties.

Heavy rain saw Ionians further challenged by the slippery slope that gave home advantage and only solid tackling restricted Westoe to three more tries by Chris Judson, Miles Scott and England Sevens player Aaron Myers.
