Otley 12 Coventry 17: Relegated Otley fail to take late opportunity to spring a surprise win against Coventry

OTLEY almost claimed victory with a late flourish but after an error-ridden game they could not make the final breakthrough.

They made the early running, a smart break by Craig Hampson ending with a penalty for Otley which was missed.

The scrum-half soon broke from a lineout to dodge his way over and put the hosts ahead at Cross Green.

Then, from the restart, they allowed winger Thomas Harris to follow up and take the ball on the full and race through – only for him to drop it when he reached the line.

However, he made no mistake when No 6 Sebastian Pearson put him in the clear.

On 27 minutes, Otley No 8 Ollie Stedman received a yellow card, the resulting penalty finding touch 15 metres out from where Coventry got hooker Matt Price over, scrum-half Lee Audis converting.

They struck again three minutes after the break with a straightforward move from a lineout, full-back Daniel Richards coming up into the line to touch down.

With relegated Otley spurning chances, twice winger Curtis Wilson giving a forward pass with the line open, Coventry were looking comfortable only for them to make another mistake.

An attempt to clear was charged down and Stedman was able to control the ball and make an untroubled way to the line, full-back Ben Hough converting from wide out.

Suddenly it was all Otley but their skills were just lacking.
