Otley 28 Launceston 25: Manupenu drops in at finish

OTLEY pulled off a last-gasp victory over Launceston.

After suffering a grandstand finish from Launceston to surrender their lead six minutes into stoppage time, Otley swept back to grab the win with an expertly manoeuvred drop-goal from fly-half Jervis Manupenu.

With injuries still having a big effect, Otley introduced a new left wing pairing, debutant centre Joe Walsh and winger Chris Morgan, who each got onto the scoresheet as Otley again produced a dazzling display of rugby.

They were aided by the intransigent approach of the visitors, which cost them three yellow cards when illegally preventing Otley from scoring.

The bigger, more mature Cornish visitors, playing in white, made a confident start but they fell offside at Otley's first attack and Manupenu kicked the penalty.

Full-back Mal Roberts levelled five minutes later then centre Palepoi Nonu burst through to set up a try for scrum-half Lewis Webb, who was up in support of his winger to grab a second on 21 minutes.

The reply was immediate, lock Joe Quinn bursting through the middle with good support, Walsh finishing off.

The re-start was run back by full-back James White before he handed on to Morgan who rounded his marker, bamboozled the full-back to race to the line, Manupenu converting both.

An early second-half penalty and a superb try from winger Curtis Wilson, inter-passing with centre Joe Barker, had Otley in the driving seat.

A try from James Salter heartened Launceston and they appeared to have secured a draw when Jacob Murphy converted Tim Mathias's try.

But a knock-on at the re-start gave Otley their opportunity which Manupenu took in style to move his side up into ninth place.
