Otley 35 London Scottish 34: Murray holds nerve for victory

Silence descended on Cross Green as James Murray stood over the ball to convert Mark Kirkby's stoppage time try in the corner. It turned to roars of victory as he sent it unerringly through the wind and between the posts to seal a magnificent victory.

Otley have been threatening to do this for some time and here they had twice to come back when all looked lost but their enterprise and commitment carried them through against the high-flying visitors.

After early promise from Otley, the Exiles took the lead when full-back Frank Neale kicked a penalty and, after stealing a put-in on the home 22, prop Andrew Fahey went over in the corner.

Five minutes later, Neale declined an easy penalty to put the ball into the corner from where No 6 Oliver Brown secured a try, Neale converting both.

Otley replied when No 8 Ollie Stedman secured line-out ball and left winger Kirkby raced in at the corner. Four minutes later, a loose ball on half-way was kicked on and collected by Oliver Denton to go in between the posts. The centre took the same route after a great break by Stedman, Murray's conversions securing a 21-17 half-time lead.

Scottish showed their class by shooting ahead with tries from centres Ian McInroy and Rory Damant, both converted by Neale, who added a penalty.

Otley captain Howard Parr then tore through the middle to hand on to full-back Christian Georgiou, who strolled over. Then came the dramatic finale when Kirkby again showed his pace to outstrip the cover, Murray doing the rest.
