Otley show style as Broadley doubles up

Otley 41 Bromsgrove 12This young Otley side obviously enjoyed themselves, and consequently so did their followers as they took on a solid, well organised, Bromsgrove who displayed their strengths at the beginning of each half only to be met with, but for one lapse, an enthusiastic defence.

Otley’s kicking from hand was largely impeccable and one into the corner set up the first score on six minutes, lock Tom O’Donnell breaking from a maul to dive over but they were caught napping when allowing No 6 Nigel Buttows a free run in from a lineout on their 22, fly-half Ben Copson conerting.

A new centre combination were answering fly-half Tom Rock’s promptings and on 23 minutes Jack Mackie broke through to put James Keinhorst in at the posts and then convert, O’Donnell claimed a second try from a drive from the 22 and scrum-half Mark Gemmell recovered from a tackle to drive in for full-back Nick Coupland to convert.

A fine kick from halfway by Keinhorst saw winger James Twomey outpace the cover to pick up and score and sub Jon Matthews was alert to seize on a chip thrrough by Mackie for Nick Baldwin to convert. Winger James Wood showed his pace to go over in the corner but centre James Llloyd-Jones claimed a last minute try for the visitors.

Stockport 20 Sheffield Tigers 23

Sheffield Tigers, after turning round 20-10 ahead, soaked up considerable pressure in the second half and held on for their third success against higher-placed opponents.

Tigers went ahead after six minutes when winger Jamie Broadley crossed for a try which Jonny West converted. Broadley raced over for another try just four minutes later before Stockport replied with a penalty from Josh Longmore.

Tigers flanker Callum MacKenzie touched down for their third try, and it was almost half-time before Stockport got their first try by Anthony Craig, converted by Longmore.

Longmire and West exchanged penalties before Stockport got back to within three points when Nick Smith crashed over. Sheffield hung on in a tense final eight minutes.
