Peacey in at double as Harrogate sign off with victory

Weakened by county calls, Harrogate did just enough to win this rearranged final fixture.

Harrogate were further hit by the departure of flanker Steve Hewetson with a serious knee injury but Ryan Peacey stole the ball from the back of the line and drove over to score a try, converted by Joe Rowntree.

Prop Jimmy Browne then broke through to score and Rowntree's touchline conversion made it 14-0 after 15 minutes.

Broadstreet responded with a try by winger Dan Phillips which Danny Richards converted before striking a post with his next attempt after scrum-half Toby Handley had crossed.

The weather deteriorated in the second half and more handling errors crept into Harrogate's game. However, they set up a driving maul from a line-out and Peacey powered over for his second and the game's last try.

The remaining 25 minutes produced little but Harrogate's performance in a dead rubber epitomised their tremendous team spirit in the side.

Still trying to finish off their season when most of their rivals have their feet up, Huddersfield also found themselves playing catch-up in the match.

Leicester ran in two converted tries in the early stages before the hosts could put together any attacking intent of their own.

Tom Owen was the first to get on the scoresheet, chipping away at the lead with a penalty but Leicester scored another try, this time unconverted.

Ben Paxman touched down to see Huddersfield turn round

19-8 down but any hopes of a comeback stalled when the second half started in a similar pattern to the first.

Leicester stretched their advantage with a converted try before Owen landed two penalties. Huddersfield were enjoying their best spell of the game and hooker James Davies went over to reduce the gap to 26-19.

But before Huddersfield could cash in, Leicester scored again and James Wood's late try was only scant consolation.

Huddersfield's game with Hull Ionians is likely to be scrapped.

In a game that was effectively a dead rubber, both sides got stuck in with a surprising amount of vigour.

The relegated Bees fielded a number of players who are not regular starters and all showed promise to the delight of head of coaching Nic Corrigan.

Up front, Joe McArthur was involved in everything the Bees did well in the tight, flanker Sam Hoobs showed tremendous athleticism at every breakdown while scrum-half Richard Scull had his best game in a Bees first- team shirt.

The Bees were fastest out of the blocks and tries came from Guy Ford and Jim McBirnie.

The visitors, who had dropped a goal earlier, were level with a try from Callister, converted by Richard Vasey, but the Bees took the lead with a try from James Morton followed by another from opposite winger Ash Walker.

Caldy's pack took control in the second period and the three scores they ran in to claim the win were probably a fair reflection of their dominance.
