Pearson in at double for Tigers as Ilkley show their resilience

Mark Ireland converted Jamie Broadley’s breakaway try and added a penalty but failed to convert No 8 Nick Pearson’s score and it was 15-0 at the break.

Cleckheaton pressure was repelled and flanker Lee Monks and Ed Simmons scored tries to sandwich one from Sam Walker.

Jack Bickerdike scooted over for Cleckheaton but Tigers had the last word with two tries in the last 10 minutes from substitute Liam Wallace and Pearson.

Ilkley secured their second win, a 23-19 success at home to Burnage.

Rhys Morgan’s men endured three concussions and two yellow cards but led 13-12 at the break after a try from the coach’s son, Elliot, and a conversion and two penalties by Joe Rowntree.

A second try after the break took the advantage to six points before a second in the corner from centre Morgan made it 23-12. With nine minutes left, an Ilkley sin-binning allowed Burnage back in for a converted try but the hosts held on.

Huddersfield YMCA suffered their second away defeat at Wirral but still picked up a bonus point for scoring four tries.

The visitors were beaten 44-27 but were well in the game at half-time and only saw the match get away from them in the final quarter. There were tries for full-back Corey Rhodes, winger Adam Ryder and joint-captain Ed Barber, and scrum-half Simon Wilson scored one and kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Sheffield fought from behind for an 18-14 win over Lymm at Abbeydale Park.

Sheffield started and finished badly but made the most of a 40-minute spell when they dominated either side of half-time.

Lymm broke out of defence to score a try by No 8 Adam Bray after five minutes, winger Richard McEvoy converting.

Sheffield’s No 8 Johnny France kicked penalties on 29 and 33 minutes and they took the lead after the break when prop Dan Rylance ploughed over for an unconverted try.

A good move saw fly-half Rob Conville race over for a try which France converted but Lymm’s McEvoy scored and converted late on.

Hull won an entertaining game at Billingham 32-21 after making a dream start following tries from Tamasi Tanumi and Harvey Harding, which Josh Bragman converted.

Billingham struck back but a penalty from Bragman and a try from winger Jamie Clark saw Hull lead 20-14 at the break.

The hosts took the lead for the first time on 42 minutes but a second try from Harding and one from centre Alex Herd sealed the win and a bonus point for jubilant Hull.
