Phillips back in the UK with Coventry

ICE HOCKEY: Former Hull Stingrays defenceman Dave Phillips has returned to the British game after two years away after agreeing terms with the Coventry Blaze.

The 23-year-old Yorkshireman has spent the last two seasons in North America, where he became the first British-trained player to play in the AHL, effectively the feeder league for the NHL.

But after spending most of last season in the North American game’s third tier, it was expected that Phillips – who helped Great Britain to a World Championship silver medal in Kiev recently – would agree a deal with a top Eiropean team. But those plans have been put on hold for at least another year after agreeing terms with 2009-10 champions Coventry.
