Picture This: Yorkshire's sporting weekend through a lens

THERE was plenty of action as ever throughout and around the White Rose this weekend, as Yorkshire's clubs and sporting stars strived for success at the start of a new year

In football, we were at Old Trafford to cover Sheffield United’s brave attempt in the FA Cup third round to get the better of Manchester United, the Blades ultimately falling in the closing moments when Wayne Rooney scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Bruce Rollinson was at Elland Road for the second meeting of the season there between Leeds United and Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United, with the home side progressing to the fourth round.

James Hardisty popped along to the Keepmoat Stadium to witness Doncaster Rovers give Stoke City the fright of their lives before succumbing to Mark Hughes’s Premier League outfit.

In rugby union, Scott Merrylees joined reporter Dave Craven at Threshfield to see Wharfedale take on Blaydon as they strive to pull away from the danger zone.

And in rugby league, Tony Johnson popped along to Post Office Road to see the pre-season friendly between Featherstone Rovers and Super League’s Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
