Preston NE v Doncaster Rovers: Dumbuya gets reward after 12-month wait

Championship: MUSTAPHA Dumbuya is finally set to make his first start for Doncaster Rovers – over a year after stepping up from non-league football.

Manager Sean O'Driscoll took a gamble on the Londoner, 23, last summer and his progress has been rewarded with a new one-year deal.

Full-back Dumbuya, whose previous clubs include Grays, Maidenhead and Wingate, looks set to make his full debut today.

"Mustapha has come in during pre-season with the bit between his teeth and has given us what we wanted," said O'Driscoll, whose regular right-back, James Chambers, is out for another month following knee surgery.

"We felt that we had that player 12 months ago but it is difficult when you come into a new environment. It takes people a little bit of time but we have wanted him to push on and see how far he could get."

O'Driscoll has failed in his bid to sign former Southampton and Burnley defender Wayne Thomas.
