Props to the fore as Maroons get back on track against Pocklington

Having failed to win in National Three North since mid-September, Morley took full advantage of a cup tie against a side lower down the leagues to build their confidence by running in six tries in a 42-0 whitewash of Pocklington.

Ben Bell started and finished the scoring and fellow prop Joe Rogers also crashed over against the North One East side.

Both wingers, Andy Farrell and Tom Clough, went over and full-back Dante van der Merwe added to his impressive run of scoring. Kenny Sewell landed all the conversions as the Maroons booked a tie against Wharfedale.

Bradford & Bingley came out 14-9 winners of the all-North One East encounter at Old Crossleyans.

Simon Hill gave them the perfect start, scoring in the first three minutes a try converted by Shaun Driver.

There was no more score in an entertaining first half but Gareth Sweeney raised home hopes with an early penalty after the break.

The Bees rallied with a second try and, despite two more successful kicks from Sweeney, Crossleyans could not make their late pressure tell.

Cleckheaton defeated Sheffield 29-10 at home.

With both sides fielding experimental selections, this match was a chance to view the progress of the younger players of the two clubs.

Cleckheaton, in particular, were still able to field a strong line-up, including their five members of the Yorkshire Under-20s squad interspersed with a few older heads.

Sheffield opened the scoring with a try from Ali Womack but in the 25th minute the home side took the lead with a try from James Wilson, which was converted by Jarrad Toulson.

The 17-year-old Sam Wood increased the hosts’ lead with a try but the two teams appeared to be evenly matched at the break.

Cleckheaton increased their intensity and extended their lead with a try from 18-year-old wing Jake Jagger, which was converted by Toulson.

Sheffield responded with a try from centre Joe Cribley but it was the hosts who ran out comfortable winners with further tries from Josh White, who was easily the best player on the field, and Callum Thompson.

Northallerton secured a 13-6 victory at Castleford in the first round of matches in the RFU National Junior Vase.

Wing-forward James Hopkins touched down, and full-back Alex Porter kicked the conversion and two penalties.

Ian Mattison kicked two penalties for Castleford, but it was not enough.
